What is this BEGINNER SALSA BOOTCAMP?

DESCRIPTION: Learn how to SALSA in ONE DAY! This came out of necessity to
help those who cannot do weekly lessons. This class is generally for the ABSOLUTE
BEGINNER but not limited to the absolute beginner. This class is a 4 hr session. It will give
you the foundation you need to be able to dance SALSA well. You will be taught the proper
SALSA step, turns, styling, LEADING & FOLLOWING techniques and MORE!!! There
is no other salsa class like it. This class goes way beyond intro classes at a night club. This
class is much more detailed in scope compaired to most beginner salsa classes. This class is
very strong in TECHNIQUE as opposed to learning moves. You can buy a DVD with tons
of salsa combinations however without proper TECHNIQUE it will be almost impossible to
execute the moves well.
This class is NOT a choreography class. You will be learning
Los Angeles style - LA ON1.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TEACHING THIS BEGINNER
SALSA BOOTCAMP?

I have been teaching the BEGINNER SALSA BOOTCAMP for years. If I remember
correctly I was in Greenville, SC when I did my first BOOTCAMP. I would guess since
2003. The bootcamp is already fine tuned and is operating smoothly.

WHO CAN TAKE THIS CLASS?

Anyone can take this class even though it is for the absolute beginner. If you answer yes to
the questions below then this is the class for you.

* Do you think you have two left feet?
* Are your friends taking lessons and you feel left behind?
* You go to salsa events and watch from the sidelines while others are having fun dancing?
* Are you very busy during the week that you cannot commit to weekly lessons?
* You can dance the basic steps but lack TECHNIQUE?
* You are an instructor but would like to learn how to teach good foundation to your
students?
* You are getting frustrated that you cannot LEAD (or FOLLOW)?
* You have been having difficulty with your combinations?
* You want to do something new and exciting!

DO I NEED TO HAVE A DANCE PARTNER TO TAKE THIS
CLASS?

NO. It is always encouraged to come with a dance partner but not necessary.

WHY SHOULD I TAKE THIS CLASS?

You should take this class for many reasons. First and the most important one is because
you want to learn proper TECHNIQUE. If you want to have a good foundation in salsa
dancing, this is the class for you. The class is progressive. It is executed at a nice pace that is
dictated by the students. I watch the learning speed. The faster the group learns, the more
info you will receive. You will receive instruction that is an accumulation of years of
experience. There will be some footwork, styling, crossbody, and many more. After close to
4 hrs of instruction, you will feel that you have accomplished something and you will feel
more confident compaired to how you would feel after taking the one hour (or 30 minutes)
salsa classes held at a night club. This class will definitely prepare you for future higher level
salsa classes.
You will not find another class elsewhere that has much information as
I provide.
TECHNIQUE is king in my salsa classes/workshops. Not too many instructors
stress techniques in their bootcamps.

I AM NOT COMFORTABLE ROTATING DANCE PARTNERS
IN CLASS. WILL THIS BE AN ISSUE?

NO, however you will miss out on the whole purpose of why I rotate dance partners. The
partners are switched (rotated) to emulate dancing with several dance partners just like you
would in a night club or salsa social. This helps you to learn how to "LISTEN" or "LEAD"
well. As a woman, when you are learning with your dance partner, your probability of
leading him is very high and that defeats the purpose of teaching the woman to FOLLOW.
When she "back leads", not only is she no longer a "FOLLOWER" she has just rendered the
man useless. He is no longer the "LEAD" and cannot lead because she took over his role.
When I rotate the dance partners (I rotate the men) there is less tendency to back lead a
stranger.

I ALREADY KNOW HOW TO DANCE SALSA, WHY SHOULD I
TAKE THIS CLASS?

This is the most common question I receive and it requires a lengthy explanation. Many have
learned how to dance salsa from friends and family. Those folks have never taken a salsa
class in their life. There is a big difference between learning from friends and family
compaired to learning from a salsa instructor (with good instruction). If you have never taken
a salsa class at all and would like to dance with an experienced salsa dancer (has taken
lessons), there will be some disconnect and the experience will not be as great as if you also
have taken salsa lessons. However I must say not just because you have taken salsa lessons
it doesn't mean that you really know how to dance either. This all depends on how well are
the instructions you received. There are so many instructors out there that do not take the
time to really educate themselves on TECHNIQUE and they do not give students proper
foundation. One good example is the term "spaghetti arms". This alone is HUGE. Many
instructors do not know how or do not understand the importance of having proper tension
(on both sides, man & woman).
TECHNIQUE is everything, salsa moves are dime a
dozen. Without TECHNIQUE you will have a hard time (almost impossible) executing the
salsa moves. You will be able to dance with more people at salsa events if you have proper
TECHNIQUE.

I AM AN INTERMEDIATE DANCER, WHY SHOULD I TAKE
THIS CLASS?

The answer is similar to the one above. The biggest flaw is most people over rate
themselves
. If you have received proper instruction then this is not the class for you.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS BOOTCAMP
AND OTHER CLASSES OR BOOTCAMPS?

There is quite a bit of differences. First this class is a crash course of my one 4 week, 1 hr
per week class. Most classes do not stress on TECHNIQUE. My classes do. Other classes
stress more on doing the extreme basic stuff. The bootcamp is a progressive class. This
means there is a build up every hour of the class. It takes you from learning to find the first
beat to learning how to put combinations together with stress on TECHNIQUE. The lessons
you will learn come from my many private lessons, salsa congresses, and many workshops I
have taken and attended over the years. The TECHNIQUES you will learn are tried and
proven to be true. I just add my own little twist to include FUN! I have mastered my
bootcamp. It has been fine tuned and it runs smoothly. I have a curriculum that works. taking
my bootcamp will give you the foundation you need in becoming a good salsa dancer.

WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT FROM OTHER
INSTRUCTORS?

There are several attributes that makes me different from other instructors however the
biggest is I am still a
"student of SALSA". I never stop learning. I never stop improving. I
have been dancing since March 2000 and have been teaching since 2001 and I have not
stopped learning. I must be ready for questions from my students and for self improvement.
Another thing is this is not my job.
It is MY PASSION. I am passionate about SALSA! I
think SALSA all the time. I really enjoy teaching! I love to see the sparkle in the student's
eyes once they get the lesson(s). They generally do. I also believe in having FUN while
learning. If I cannot make my students either smile or laugh, I am not doing my job. When
the class is FUN, learning is so much easier. I always want to give the best instruction to my
students and the best way for me to achieve that is to be a "student of salsa". This in return
makes me a
SALSA SPECIALIST. To learn more about the instructor John
